In 2012, late Abraham Chacko, who once ran a resort called Turtle Bay, on the west coast of India asked me if I had time to give new life to the walls in the nearby village aganwadi (kindergarten). My orange backpack and I made our way by train, reaching a tiny railway station, like in story books, late at night. This incredible experience taught me to be out of my comfort zone, cross language barriers with a gesture of boiled eggs and coconut water, to be near the sea, to share conversations, to add joy to another’s world with my paint brush, to feel kindness, to be patient and understand myself better. I will always be grateful to Abraham his wisdom and this experience of a lifetime.
