A Dialogue of Materials Exchanged Across the Globe
Attachment; Abbreviated was a virtual collaboration with artist Kat Furtado, where we sent each other precious materials from our studios in the US & India, and incorporated the others materials in creating our individual artworks.
For these pieces I first sorted through Kat’s materials according to colour and started to add my fabrics and bits from my studio to those groups. My biggest challenge was that our colour palettes were completely different. Intuitively they got divided into three artworks that I worked simultaneously on.
‘Living through time here on earth’, ‘multiple existences at once’, ‘each life as important or not as the other’, ‘intersecting of our paths’, or ‘never meeting another that lives adjacent to you’, are ideas that were central to my works. In the midst of all the sound and movement in our lives individually and collectively there is a personal connection with the universe, the ‘I and existence’. This was an attempt to map these thoughts.
These three works were created during a collaboration with artist Kat Furtado from California in March - May 2022, we shared and exhibited them virtually as part of the Taking Up Space initiative by Thrive Together Network (previously Artist/Mother Podcast Network).
